RESEARCH TECHNOLOGY GROUP

The Research Technology Group (RTG) developed and maintains a text retrieval and analysis program called WordCruncher. RTG also assists in the preparation of WordCruncher versions of electronic texts. With WordCruncher, one can easily find where one or more words occur in electronic texts. Its analysis tools facilitate the study of textual content and language. WordCruncher and highly marked-up texts (like the Dead Sea Scrolls Electronic Library) provide a rich research environment for scholars and students.

WordCruncher has been used for over twenty years to distribute the electronic scriptures of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is also being used to publish several Maxwell Institute electronic texts which include the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Popol Vuh, the Critical Text of the Book of Mormon, and Christian Syriac texts. WordCruncher is being used at BYU and elsewhere to search and study other religious and secular electronic texts. These include academic and nonacademic texts in humanities, religion, business, and politics.
